Pregnancy Skin Heroes

Ah pregnancy. You do have your ups and downs don’t you?

Since finding out I was pregnant on the 1st November I knew how many changes the following 9 months would bring (not to mention the changes after those 9 months). I knew to expect morning sickness, tiredness and my body changing in all sorts of ways, what I wasn’t prepared for however were the changes to my skin.
I’ve always had quite good skin, sure I’ve had the odd break out and dry patches in the colder weather but I’ve never had bad skin, I’ve never suffered with acne or really had to worry about my skin….until now!

My first trimester hit my skin with a wave of acne, oddly only on one cheek but it was BAD. Of course I did what any normal hormonal woman would do, I cried and hit my best friend with a barrage of texts asking for advice. The thing she constantly reminded me of was that the changes I was experiencing were due to hormones and actually there probably wasn’t a great deal I could do.
She was right, it was a wave I just had to ride out, which honestly nearing my third trimester, I’m still not quite over. But I am getting there and of course there were still a few things I could do to help matters….

I’ve settled into quite a nice skincare routine which has certainly helped and more importantly doesn’t aggravate my temperamental skin! Let me share with you four products that I’m loving at the moment….

First up, a good yet gentle cleanser is key, I cleanse in the morning and evening, using something too harsh would just cause my blemishes to become angry and irritable. The Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel is perfect, the oil base will melt away all make up and dirt from the day, leaving your skin super soft and thoroughly cleansed.

I’m sure you’ll all be familiar with the Pixi Glow Tonic by now, but just incase you’re not let me add to the hype by saying this stuff is brilliant. Again, it’s super gentle unlike some toners which can leave skin feeling red and tight. It soothes and hydrates skin whilst removing dead skin cells and helping diminish imperfections. Perfect for temperamental pregnant skin!

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo is specifically designed for treating blemish’s so it’s perfect if you’ve had a breakout. This lightweight cream will help reduce the appearance of pesky blemishes and will actively help clear blocked pores. I’ve used this for the last few months and it has quickly become a staple in my skincare routine.

I love a product that gets to work overnight and the Kiehls Mico Peel Concentrate has sat on my bedside table for the last 4 months now – I use it every single night. This dreamy facial serum has played a key part in helping smooth out and rid my blemish ridden skin caused by acne scaring. It’s a pricey little bottle but a little goes a long long way.

I’d love to know what products you’re loving at the moment?

I have used all of these products throughout my pregnancy without any issues, however I cannot vouch for all pregnancies so if you are concerned please do contact your doctor or the manufacturer before use.
